Jenkintown, PA, March 24, 2009 — Local MamaCita artists will pay tribute to mothers on Sunday, May 3, from 11 am to 3 pm, with a celebratory event that includes a catered brunch, a private screening of the award-winning film Who Does She Think She Is?, and a mimosa art reception.  The event is in honor of Mother's Day and will take place one week prior to the actual holiday.  The brunch and film will take place at the historic Hiway Theatre in Jenkintown, PA, followed by a mimosa reception, just a block away, at Joshua’s where attendees can relax and enjoy art by the female artists of MamaCita (a Mother’s Cooperative in the Arts).  Tickets for this MamaCita event are $25 per person.  All profits will benefit the Hiway Theatre.Melissa Tevere, founder of MamaCita, mother of two, and professional artist, knows all too well the constant balancing-act of a mother’s life.  While the documentary film Who Does She Think She Is? focuses upon the lives of mothers who are artists, Melissa notes that “this film has universal appeal because it inspires all mothers to dedicate time to one self, time that nourishes the psyche and fulfills an inner purpose.”  In 2006, Melissa Tevere established the MamaCita organization with the goal of creating a support system for female artists, who are often working in isolation.  MamaCita offers its members, each of whom is also a mother, a creative outlet, a more substantial voice in the art world, and the encouragement of women who understand the hectic pace of motherhood.  Who Does She Think She Is? has won numerous awards including the 2008 Official Selection of the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, and was created by the producing team that won an Academy Award for Born Into Brothels.  The film examines some of the most pressing issues of our time: parenting and work, partnering and independence, economics and art.  Who Does She Think She Is? follows five women artists, ages 27 to 65, as they navigate the economic, psychological, and spiritual challenges of making work outside the elite art world. To purchase tickets for this event please contact the Hiway Theatre at 215-886-9800 (advance ticket purchase is recommended).  To view a trailer for the film, please visit www.whodoesshethinksheis.net.  For additional questions, please contact Heather Knopf Reeves at 215-454-9953 or visit www.mamacitaarts.com or www.hiwaytheatre.org.
