Elkins Park, PA, April 30, 2009 — On Thursday, May 14 from 3 to 5:30 pm, kids will be the guests of honor at a special children’s art show and reception to be held at the gallery of Congregation Kol Ami in Elkins Park.  The featured artist, Heather Mary Knopf Reeves, paints fun, lively subject matter in vibrant colors in hopes that her fine art paintings spark the imagination of kids, as well as grown-ups.  Her acrylic paintings range from a T. rex, a hen, and a zebra to outer space, a fairy and a robot.  This is Heather’s debut art show, and it is free and open to the public.  Kol Ami is located at 8201 High School Road in Elkins Park, PA.  All families with children are invited to attend.    On May 14, the atmosphere of what an actual art reception might feel like will be created for the children.  The youngsters will be treated to kid-friendly snacks, enjoy jazzy music, look through kaleidoscopes, check out the color wheels, and interact with the art pieces through “I SPY” instructional cards with their parents. Heather notes, “I believe that all art plays a vital role in a child’s life.  Art inspires youth and helps children to discover their own sense of imagination, creativity and ingenuity.”   Heather’s paintings for children will be on display at Congregation Kol Ami’s art gallery from May 5 through May 31, 2009.  During this time, fifteen percent (15%) of all sales from her paintings, as well as her collection of prints, will be donated to the Kol Ami Nursery School to support children’s activities and programs. The gallery is open on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to noon.  If Kol Ami’s religious school is closed, so too is the gallery.   About Heather Mary Knopf Reeves – Local artist, Heather Mary Knopf Reeves, resides in the community of Elkins Park with her family.  Heather was trained in oils from age eight to nineteen years of age.  She now works in acrylics and has focused on creating art for children.  Heather’s own children, ages three and almost five, have provided the direct inspiration for her latest work, and she runs each new painting by her two, very honest, little art critics.  Heather is also a member of MamaCita, a Mothers' Cooperative in the Arts.  For more information, please email heathermarypaints@gmail.com or call 215-454-9953.
